This ride begins near the Puntledge River as we warm up with the fun twisty trails of the Puntledge River Recreation area. After enjoying panoramic views during a 10 km climb up to Forbidden Plateau, you will descend through some of the best singletrack that Vancouver Island has to offer.  The trails roll fast through mature forests and then out onto rocky bluffs.  These rocky sections are a unique feature of the local topography and provide spectacular viewpoints where you will have a 180 degree or more panoramic view.  From these viewpoints you experience views of the Comox Glacier, the Beaufort Range, Comox Lake, Georgia Straight, the Northern Discovery Islands and the Coast Range.  A true local epic!

This unique day of riding is a true treat for all gravity seekers.  This service is a treat to IMR clients who following the tour will need to vow to replace all carbon used during the day!  The Forbidden Plateau trail network is an all-mountain paradise.  The trails are gnarly flow; technical trails that flow at a nice speed, a few steep sections here and there, but not too crazy for too long. Just right for modern all-mountain bikes and riders who want a fun challenge.  On these trails you can get up to speed to flow through tight forested sections that spill out onto open rocky bluffs.  The trails are diverse and provide a fun filled day of riding.  With at private driver (Yes, private driver!) and the IMR van, we will do 2 – 3 fossil fuel assisted ascents up Plateau Road to the trailhead.  On the descents, your guide will lead the way and show you all the great trails including such trails as; Two Shieks and a Dog, Cabin Fever, Transmission, White Rabbit and more.  The tour includes a healthy, hearty, locally prepared lunch that we will enjoy at a beautiful viewpoint where we will have a panoramic view where you will see views of the Comox Glacier, the Beaufort Range, Comox Lake, Georgia Straight, the Northern Discovery Islands and the Coast Range.

Following a great ride down from the plateau or around and near the river, relaxation along the Puntledge or a swim at one of the local swimming holes is always an option.  Island Mountain Rides can bring it all together for you and show you all that these areas have to offer.
